Ranchos de Taos is a quiet, still-lived-in Spanish colonial village — a working parish church, family-run galleries, and one legendary diner, with almost none of downtown's gallery-hopping bustle. The Gorge is the opposite register entirely: open high desert, wind, and a genuinely vertigo-inducing view, best treated as a scenic/outdoor stop rather than a place to linger over lunch.
