Park Circle & the Navy Yard, North Charleston

Things to know

• You need a car or a rideshare. It is about fifteen minutes from downtown Charleston with no useful transit link, and it is not walkable from the peninsula.
• City Paper readers voted Park Circle the best neighbourhood in Charleston in 2026, beating every historic district downtown.
• The East Montague strip itself is genuinely walkable end to end — park once and do the whole street on foot.
• King BBQ, Bar Weems and El Molino are all in North Charleston but not on East Montague; each is a separate short drive.
• Bar Weems runs Wednesday to Saturday only and serves until 1am, which makes it one of very few genuinely late kitchens in the region.
• Almost everything here takes walk-ins. Jackrabbit Filly is the one worth booking, especially at weekends.
• Riverfront Park hosts High Water in April, High Tide in June and Riverfront Revival in October. On those weekends parking across the whole neighbourhood is difficult.
• The Navy Yard and Design District, on the old base, is a live redevelopment — new restaurants keep opening in the storehouses, so anything more than a year old about this area is likely incomplete.
