Albuquerque is the high-desert working city New Mexico actually lives in, not the postcard version tourists picture when they say "Santa Fe." Locals will tell you it's the better food city and the more honest one — bigger, blunter, more Pueblo and Hispanic than Anglo-styled, and built low and brown across a river valley between a volcanic mesa and a 10,000-foot mountain wall.
