• Women may not enter the silver ordination hall at Wat Sri Suphan. It is signposted, it is enforced, and it applies regardless of the 50 THB ticket, which everyone pays. The temple explains it as a Lanna belief about consecrated objects buried beneath the ubosot rather than a rule of Buddhism. It became a minor international news story in July 2026. Women can walk the exterior, which is where most of the silverwork is anyway.
• The Saturday Walking Street is the neighbourhood's whole evening once a week: Wua Lai Road closes from around 16:30 and runs to roughly 22:00–midnight. It is smaller and less shoulder-to-shoulder than the Sunday market inside the walls, and the craft is more likely to have been made by the person selling it.
• At 18:00 the national anthem plays and everyone stops walking and stands still. Stop walking and stand still.
• Come in daylight too. The workshops are open on ordinary weekdays and you can watch repoussé being hammered from the pavement — that is the actual thing, and it disappears under the stalls on Saturday.
• Cash. The noodle shops, the temple ticket booths and most of the market are cash-only, and nobody wants a 1,000 THB note before noon.
• The good food here keeps daytime hours. Khao Soi Lung Prakit shuts mid-afternoon and Teng Rung Ruang closes at 16:00; if you arrive at 19:00 on a Tuesday your options thin out fast.
• It is a genuine ten-minute walk from Chiang Mai Gate to Wat Sri Suphan, and about twenty from Tha Phae Gate. You do not need transport for this neighbourhood, and on Saturday you can't use it anyway.
